Words with the art

A compilation series

Explained

The context to this is that I hate graphic design. I respect it, don’t get me wrong. I could do it for a job. But, as an artist, I hate the corporate lens and the process of restricted creation. So, a big part of graphic design is words, and naturally, as I was making these wild visual art pieces, words were not in the cards to be included.

Eventually, I realized I could use them in cool ways if I wanted to. I just wanted to make sure I didn’t turn my art into a graphic design-type piece.

I also viewed this as a way to push myself artistically. For 10 pieces between #266-#275, I forced myself to use text in the work. After that, as I had hoped, text became something I knew I could use, and thus dabbled with it occasionally to elevate the visuals. My next goal with it is to make it present, but less in your face, like #268.
